Byington Vineyard & Winery is proud to introduce our winemaking team, Theresa Heredia and Jason Rothenberger. Together, they bring accomplished outside experience and deep knowledge of our cellar to wines that express the distinctive character of our Santa Cruz Mountains and Alexander Valley vineyards.
Theresa Heredia
Theresa brings more than two decades of acclaimed winemaking experience to Byington. She earned a bachelor’s degree in biochemistry from California Polytechnic State University, San Luis Obispo, and pursued graduate studies in chemistry and viticulture and enology at the University of California, Davis.
After her first harvest at Saintsbury in 2001, Theresa joined Joseph Phelps Vineyards and helped develop its Freestone project, earning recognition for expressive Pinot Noir and Chardonnay. She later served as winemaker and Director of Winemaking at Gary Farrell Vineyards & Winery before establishing Heredia Wine Consulting. Her thoughtful, site-focused approach emphasizes vineyard character, vibrant natural acidity, balance, and a clear sense of place.
Jason Rothenberger
Jason has been an integral part of the Byington team since August 2022. He began as our Cellar Master, developing a detailed understanding of our wines, cellar, and winemaking operations through hands-on work across each vintage. In 2026, Jason was promoted to Assistant Winemaker.
Jason’s continuity at Byington and practical cellar experience complement Theresa’s broad perspective. Working together, they guide each wine from vineyard to bottle with careful attention to fruit quality, balance, and the individual character of every vintage.
We are excited for this next chapter and for the wines Theresa and Jason will create for our members, guests, and friends.
