Our Tasting Room needs Your Leadership! Byington Vineyard & Winery is a stunning venue open to the public on weekends for picnics, events, and tastings of our award-winning wines! We are looking for a passionate wine enthusiast with strong leadership skills to manage our Tasting Room (TR), drive sales, keep the place looking great and running smoothly, and of course: to deliver an outstanding wine experience to our guests! You’ll be surrounded by the unparalleled beauty of our Winery & Vineyard in the Santa Cruz Mountains, you’ll work with a team of vibrant wine enthusiasts, you’ll serve and interact with countless wine loving guests, and you’ll taste and experience incredible wines!

What you’ll be doing…

Delivering a great all-around experience for our guests, while maintaining a positive work environment for our TR staff, ensuring compliance with our policies, and generating/driving business & sales. You’ll achieve this by:

  • Working closely with the Director of Sales to continue to sharpen and implement operations for a more efficient achievement of our TR Goals
  • Keeping up to date on procedures, sales tips, event updates, and other pertinent info
  • Driving Wine Sales: wine tastings, wine by the glass, wine by the bottle
  • Generating Wine Club Sign Ups
  • Managing & Training TR Staff
  • Ensuring compliance of federal and state laws and company policies and procedures
  • Keeping up-to-date tasting menus, signage, and promotional materials
  • Managing/Ordering Supplies
  • Supporting Events
  • Resolving guest concerns/complaints using good judgment, professionalism and courtesy

Tasting Room Associate, Byington (Weekends Primarily)

We seek wine enthusiasts who love interacting with a wide-range of people and delight in providing a stellar customer experience. This part-time job is in our Tasting Room on Saturdays and Sundays. Associates work anywhere from 2 to 8 weekend days per month.

Working Conditions

Tasting Room Sales Associate, Los Altos Tasting Room (Part-time)

Are you excited to create new customers, develop relationships with existing customers, and gain satisfaction generating sales via their own initiative. The candidate must be comfortable with proactively interacting and selling to customers, striking up an immediate wine-focused conversation (training provided).


  • Sell wine bottles to customers based on their preferences
  • Sign up Wine Club and Wholesale Club Memberships by delighting customers with membership benefits
  • Expand sales with customers by developing authentic relationships – move beyond the transaction
  • Inform passersby and customers about our nearby winery and encouraging weekend visits
  • Offer tastings and wine by the glass and bottle with the above noted points in mind

Sales Associate is expected to

  • Proactively engage with passersby outside of store front, developing a quick rapport based on a wine-related conversation
  • Ask questions about prospective buyers’ wine preferences
  • Educate guests regarding our wines, vineyards, and brand history
  • Make wine recommendations based on customer’s interest
  • Offer tastings and wine by the glass, bottles, and light snacks with requisite preparation and cleanup
  • Follow up with customers by email and/or phone with tasting notes, new wines, and other info that may be of interest to generate sales
  • Open, close, and operate cash registers, POS system, and Wine Club system
  • Maintain Tasting Room, keeping it tidy, organized, and notifying manager of inventory needs
  • Handle Wine Club release pickups
  • May include other responsibilities


  • Wipe down all surfaces used by guests before and after use
  • Clean and polish glassware
  • Swiffer bathroom floor (2 minutes) and clean toilet (1 minute) every few days
  • Sweep Tasting Room inside and outside as needed
  • Dust and swiffer-mop floor in spots as needed
  • Set up A-frame sign and other sales props and bring back in each day

  • Quickly become knowledgeable about our wines, winery, Wine Clubs, current promotions, etc.
  • 21 years of age or older
  • Ability to remain standing and actively working for 4-hour shift (no sitting)

  • Adhere to all safety and sanitary guidelines as set forth by Santa Clara County, State, and Federal agencies, including social distancing and face mask requirements in providing a safe workplace for you, other employees, vendors, and guests
  • Complete all job duties in a correct and timely manner and by following all company policies and procedures


Currently, the Tasting Room is open 5 days per week from 2-6 pm or 2-7 pm. We currently have a need for a staff member for Thursdays. Could include a second day and can be a fill in for staff members when they are on vacation. For additional days, staff member could work at winery as well on Saturday and/or Sunday.

  • Option for working a 4-hour shift 1, 2, or 3 days per week
  • Periodically, we have additional staffing opportunities for more hours


Los Altos minimum wage of $15.65 per hour plus tips and other monetary incentives based on performance.

Seasonal Harvest Intern

We are seeking a Seasonal Harvest Intern to join our team for the 2021 Harvest. We work with estate fruit from soil to bottle. This position is a unique opportunity to get involved in every aspect of winemaking and to work with a great team. This position will be cellar-focused but will also encompass our vineyards.

The ideal candidate will have an enthusiastic, can-do attitude and take pride in their work, no matter how small the task. The candidate will have a strong interest in winemaking, a strong work ethic, and desire to be a part of the harvest family.

The Seasonal Cellar Worker will gain experience in many facets of the winery, but will mainly be responsible for safely executing the following:

•  Assist in receiving and processing fruit, sorting, pressing, etc.
•  Perform punch downs, pump-overs
•  Monitor fermentation Brix and temperature as needed
•  Racking juice, filling, topping, and stirring barrels
•  Removing pomace from tanks & presses
•  Safe operation of a forklift
•  Accurate record keeping
•  General cleaning and sanitization of winery and winery equipment
•  Additional assignments, as needed

•  US citizen or work visa required
•  Previous winery or harvest experience beneficial
•  Serious passion for wine and winemaking
•  A strong attention to detail, positive attitude, willingness to work hard and get dirty, and ability to work well with others is essential
•  Ability to perform the physical demands of cellar work and lift, including carrying 50 pounds, bending, stooping, and climbing ladders
•  Ability to work long hours/weekends and in various conditions
•  Valid Driver’s License required
•  Must be 21 years of age or older due to the nature of the work being performed
