Our Story
The gem of the Santa Cruz Mountains, Byington Vineyard & Winery sits on 95 mountainous acres surrounded by redwood forests with a view to the Monterey Bay. Byington produces award-winning Pinot Noir, Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, and other exciting varietals that highlight the diversity of Northern California.
Established in 1987, the winery is focused on growing and producing premium wines, farmed sustainably using biodynamic growing methods. Our high-quality, small-production wines come from our ultra-premium Estate vineyards: 8 acres of Byington Estate Pinot Noir in the Santa Cruz Mountains and 36 acres of Tin Cross Vineyards Cabernet Sauvignon, Chardonnay, Cabernet Franc, Merlot, and Petit Verdot from Alexander Valley. We purchase additional varietals from select vineyards for an expansive array of wines.

Daniel Negueruela
Winemaker
Daniel Negueruela, hailing from the quaint village of Lardero in Rioja, Spain, is a winemaker whose journey is steeped in tradition and passion. From his early days spent in his grandfather’s basement, learning the intricate art of winemaking amidst the scent of aged Tempranillo vines, to his swift rise through the ranks of a local winery in Rioja, Daniel’s dedication to his craft has been unwavering. His story is one of perseverance and love, as he pursued winemaking education while balancing his responsibilities at the winery, eventually becoming the youngest member ever inducted into the esteemed Denominacion de Origen Calificada Rioja board. In 2020, Daniel and his wife took a leap of faith, relocating to the United States, where he found himself at Byington Winery in the Santa Cruz Mountains AVA. With his skills and passion, Daniel swiftly ascended to the role of head winemaker, continuing his journey of crafting exceptional wines rooted in tradition and fueled by his love for family, community, and good food.

Community Involvement
Byington supports hundreds of non-profits requesting donations for their charity auctions. We issue more than 350 charity auction gift certificates for these non-profits every year for a wine tour and tasting for 10, a $350 value. We’ve continued this tradition that the Byingtons started since we purchased the winery in 2012. We have supported more than 2,500 charity events in 2012. Anyone can learn more about this at our website. We welcome non-profits and volunteers helping them to make requests for their charity auctions as well.
