It is time for the cellar crew to take a deep breath as harvest is wrapping up for us here at the winery. We have brought in all of the fruit for this year, some of the fermentations are happily bubbling away, and the rest of the wines are already being barreled down. We had some outstanding grapes come in this year and despite the fact that this harvest was a little lighter than normal, 2008 should prove to be a banner year.
Now it is time to look ahead. Shortly we will be bottling the 2007 Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs and the 2008 Saignee. After that we will look at putting the 2006 Alliage together and let the blend marry in the barrel for a while before we bottle. We hope to see you at the winery soon to taste some of our exciting new offerings.
Wine Notes
2006 Bald Mountain Chardonnay
Santa Cruz Mountains
The nose is heavy with spicy oak and caramel
aromas. The palate is ripe with elegant fruit and resolves to a silky finish.
The Bald Mountain Chardonnay will be a beautiful compliment to any
dish with walnuts, especially toasted walnuts. This winter, pair a glass of the
Bald Mountain Chardonnay with roasted squash drizzled with walnut oil, sherry
vinegar, and topped off with crumbled goat cheese - it can't get better than that. Buy more now.
The
2005 Messina Merlot is a perfect example of Paso Robles Merlot-bold and
full-bodied. This wine will leave you in a state of awe. This spectacular
vineyard imparts the terroir of old-world Europe with modern technology,
resulting in a perfect compromise of the old and the new-a viticulturist's
dream. You will be amazed by the power of intense fruit on the nose:
well focused, yet continually evolving in your glass. Flavors of cassis fruit
with a slight hint of ginger and nutmeg make Messina Merlot an age-worthy wine
-8 to 10 years easily-before it peaks. By all means, buy a case and try some
now to see how it develops throughout the years.
