Harvest is in full swing up here at the winery. We have picked our Estate Pinot Noir Vineyard, received fruit from the Quenneville Vineyard, and we are expecting Redwood Hill and Ventana Vineyards to be ready to pick in the next two weeks.
This year's crop is rather early and quite a bit smaller than average, but the quality of the grapes more than makes up for the lack of quantity. It is exciting to see these outstanding grapes come in, and it reminds us all of the mercurial nature of winemaking.
The cellar is bustling with activity as we crush, de-stem and ferment 40 tons of grapes for Byington's 2008 wines. We hope that you will visit us soon to see the winemaking team in action.

2006 Bald Mountain Chardonnay
Santa Cruz Mountains
The nose is heavy with spicy oak and caramel
aromas. The palate is ripe with elegant
fruit and resolves to a silky finish.
The Bald Mountain Chardonnay will be a
beautiful compliment to any dish with
walnuts, especially toasted walnuts. This winter, pair a glass of the Bald
Mountain Chardonnay with roasted squash drizzled with walnut oil, sherry
vinegar, and topped off with crumbled goat cheese-it can't get better than
that. Buy more now.

2007 Ventana Vineyard Sauvignon Blanc Monterey
After
traveling to New Zealand for their 2008 harvest, I realized how much I
like Sauvignon Blanc, its fresh aroma and crisp palate does it for
me. Truly a wine in a class of its own,
nothing compares to Sauvignon Blanc.The
nose of the Ventana Sauvignon Blanc gives you sense of summer - fresh cut green
grass and hay. At the winery we often
reach for a glass of our Sauvignon Blanc after a particularly hot day. This
wine will surely be gone by summer's end, so enjoy the bottle in your shipment
and pick up some more soon.

2006 Quenneville Reserve
Santa Cruz Mountains
The
Reserve Chardonnay was carefully fermented using only native yeasts. The fermentation was cool and slow. The wine
was aged, sur lies, in French Oak barrels. Two of the three barrels we made
were aged in new French Oak. We put the
Chardonnay through 100% malolactic fermentation to give it a silky,
smooth palate, and a lovely, creamy nose.
The 2006 Quenneville Reserve has a beautiful
nose of apple, and cinnamon, with an exotic toasted spice characteristic that
is redolent of an Indian spice market. The
palate is pure silk with a finish that just will not quit. Even as I sit
writing these notes I am still contemplating the intricacies of this exquisite
wine. This is a wine for the ages- impeccable on its own, and a beautiful
compliment to a wide range of cuisine. Stock up on this gem as we only produced 68 cases of the Quenneville Reserve. Read the complete winemaker notes
