This time of year it is hard not to contemplate the cyclical nature of the growing season. In the vineyard the fruit for the 2008 harvest has already set on the vines; and within the past few months the vine's vigorous growth has changed the face of the winery, displaying all of the potential of another year's harvest.

As we hit the midpoint of summer everything in the vineyard looks wonderful. Assuming these hot stretches don't stretch through the entire summer we should be in line for a great vintage.
Wine Notes
2007 Ventana Sauvignon Blanc
Monterey

2007 Ventana Sauv BlancAfter traveling to New Zealand for their 2008 harvest, I realized how much I like Sauvignon Blanc, its fresh aroma and crisp palate does it for me. Truly a wine in a class of its own, nothing compares to Sauvignon Blanc.

The nose of the Ventana Sauvignon Blanc gives you sense of summer - fresh cut green grass and hay. At the winery we often reach for a glass of our Sauvignon Blanc after a particularly hot day. This wine will surely be gone by summer's end, so enjoy the bottle in your shipment and pick up some more soon.

2005 Hastings Ranch Pinot Noir
Paso Robles
Hastings Pinot Noir
This Pinot is very earthy with a fruit-forward aroma. The Hastings Ranch Pinot evokes rich flavors of apricot and plum on the palate, balanced by a finessed acidity and a lingering finish. It boasts an aged style far beyond its years, due, in large part, to 18 months barrel aging. This Pinot is a food-lover's dream. The earthiness calls for morel mushrooms, or perhaps a truffle risotto; the acidity begs to offset the richness of duck confit; and the ripe fruit on the palate is a perfect compliment to anything on the grill. This is a perfect summertime red so order more now.
