Once again I would like to thank you for being a part of the Byington Wine Club,
and a member of our extended family. On May 18 we held our fifteenth annual Boar
Fest and were delighted to share in the fun with all of you who could join the
festivities.
The weather was a bit hotter than we would have liked, but
thankfully it was cooler than Friday and Saturday. The luau theme was a big
success. Club members spent the afternoon sipping wine, enjoying the Polynesian
Buffet, courtesy of the Absolute Barbecue Company, and the Hawaiian sounds of Ka
Ehu Kai.

2005 Alliage
Paso Robles

Continuing the legacy of Alliage, the 2005
blend is an age-worthy wine that still may be enjoyed early. It remains an
easy-drinking Bordeaux-style blend, with multiple varietals blended into the
wine. See if you can spot them! Cabernet Sauvignon from several different
vineyards, along with some Cabernet Franc and a splash of Merlot mingle beautifully, showcasing the
"spice rack" principle of winemaking.
Enjoy this wine for years to come; it will last in bottle for at least 10
years if laid down properly, so order more now.

2005 Hastings Ranch Pinot Noir
Paso Robles
This Pinot is very earthy
with a fruit-forward aroma, the Hastings Ranch Pinot evokes rich flavors of
apricot and plum on the palate, balanced by a finessed acidity and a lingering
finish. It boasts an aged style far beyond its years, due, in
large part, to 18 months barrel aging.
This Pinot is a food-lover's dream. The
earthiness calls for morel mushrooms, or perhaps a truffle risotto; the acidity
begs to offset the richness of duck confit; and the ripe fruit on the palate is
a perfect compliment to anything on the grill. This is a perfect summertime red so order more now.

2005 Van der Kamp Pinot Noir
Sonoma Mountain
At first sip you are struck by a symphony of earth and fruit with a velvety mouth feel. Being so young, the wine has a dry, tannic finish that will age out over time. I highly recommend opening a bottle now and decanting it. This will soften the tannins and create a luscious texture. It is one of the best vintages we have seen from Van der Kamp. To get your share I would buy more now.
