Once again I would like to thank you for being a part of the Byington Wine Club, and a member of our extended family. On May 18 we held our fifteenth annual Boar Fest and were delighted to share in the fun with all of you who could join the festivities.

The weather was a bit hotter than we would have liked, but thankfully it was cooler than Friday and Saturday. The luau theme was a big success. Club members spent the afternoon sipping wine, enjoying the Polynesian Buffet, courtesy of the Absolute Barbecue Company, and the Hawaiian sounds of Ka Ehu Kai.
Wine Notes
2006 Redwood Hill Chardonnay
Santa Cruz Mountains
Redwood Hill Chardonnay

The Redwood Hill Chardonnay displays a beautiful vanilla aroma from the French Oak and a yeastiness from sur lees aging. Stopping here you might think it to be a typical California Chardonnay, saturated and heavy-handed, but no, the crisp acidity is reminiscent of Granny Smith apples with a luscious pear aroma to round out the nose. I think of the Redwood Hill as a sipping wine, refreshing and elegant all in one. If you want to have more on hand to enjoy all summer long order more now.

2005 Hastings Ranch Zinfandel
Paso Robles
Alliage
At first sip you are struck by a symphony of earth and fruit with a velvety mouth feel. Being so young, the wine has a dry, tannic finish that will age out over time. I highly recommend opening a bottle now and decanting it. This will soften the tannins and create a luscious texture. Enjoy this Zin with everything from barbecue to chocolate. It is one of the best vintages we have seen from the Hasting's Ranch. Our stock of Zinfandel never lasts very long, so to get your share I would buy more.

Events that are coming up this summer include the Sunday Jazz, featuring the music of the Stan Erhart Band on the second Sunday and the Adrian Gormley Ensemble on the fourth Sunday, now through October.

We will be starting the Al Fresco Thursday evenings up again in June. Live music will be featured on the first Thursday of the month, with the Sam Nillson Trio kicking off our season on June 5th. We look forward to seeing you at our upcoming winery events.
Sincerely,

Jeanette Condon
