As the vineyard starts to change into shades of yellow, orange and red, and the cellar starts to fill with fruit from the 2007 harvest, we here at Byington hosted our annual Harvest Festival. This year we were again blessed with a beautiful Santa Cruz Mountains day. There was a crispness in the air, but the sun warmed the guests out on the front lawns. The wine flowed from our tasting room as well as the library tasting set up on the North Lawn.

Festival goers came out in droves to partake in the annual grape stomp. Children of all ages participated in the face painting which added to the festivities of the day. Alexandra's Catering made sure that no stompers went hungry with her delectables from the grill. We all grooved the day away with the sultry sounds of the Stan Erhart Band.

We want to thank everyone who joined us and contributed to a wonderful day. The cellar crush is still happening, so if you missed out on our event, be sure to stop by and check out the action in the cellar.

2004 Cerro Prieto Cabernet Sauvignon
Paso Robles Appellation
545 cases produced

The nose is still a little tight, but upon opening it gives you a hit of the ripe jammy fruits that explode on your palate-ripe plums, blackberries, a touch of smoked bell pepper and an earthy spiciness. It is a bold and intense wine that still manages to retain a certain elegance. The Cerro Prieto will continue to evolve over the next ten years, and should be absolutely delicious in seven or so years.

2005 Redwood Hill Chardonnay
Santa Cruz Mountains Appellation
226 Cases Produced

This wine is barrel fermented in French Oak which gives a vanilla kiss to the mineral backbone of this classic Santa Cruz Mountains Chardonnay.  The Redwood Hill has a delicate apple nose, perhaps from that nearby apple orchard, and a lovely, crisp acidity. This is an outstanding food wine and pairs perfectly with a broad range of cuisines- but it shines with cheeses.  This Chardonnay is drinking well now, but should continue to evolve until next winter.
